I wanted to post up something a little more positive than my last post, and it's about Anthems or theme songs.
I have been expanding my appreciation for country in recent weeks and have been basically waiting for "Bonfire" and "Out in the Backwoods" to come on the radio.
I am not a full-blown twangified hick, although Clare is certainly worried I'm heading in that direction. I just like to rock out and hear things that resonate with things I hold dear: guns, knives, fire, trucks/jeeps, and life in general "out in the sticks." I mean, when a song begins with the lyrics "Rifle in a gun rack hanging in the back glass/ buck knife on my belt..." that pretty much has my complete attention right there, and sums up how I want to be set up in general...
I like country, but bluegrass is my absolute favorite and preference in the americana department. I mean, I could really get into some serious bluegrass, preferably on some dude's cabin porch out here, but I'd likely have better luck finding a bonfire.
Peace Out,

We regularly rock out to some good back porch bluegrass. If you ever get a chance to make it to Lafayette during the Fiddlers Gathering we will show you how it's done, followed by a trip to the range.
SNAP! Our secret hope was to come out during the weekend of the Fiddlers' Gathering and hang with you guys, but my niece's graduation party is 12 days earlier.
So we are now planning on a 2011 attendance, but we can hit the range any time...

I've been meaning to ask you what exactly happened to your Raven holster? I know you said it cracked, but where is the crack on the holster and do you know what caused it? I am actually still considering one, as yours is the first failure I've heard of, and lots of folks over on INGunowners swear by them. Have you tried contacting Raven and asking them to make it right?
Hey Martin,
The crack is along the crease over the top of the slide. This area looked The holster is still usable, and I am wondering if this occurred because: A) I was not wearing a gun belt; B) getting in and out of the car sans gun belt caused it to crack.
To be fair, I probably spoke too hastily. In fact, I know I did. After adding a pair of suspenders to my daily get-up, the holster rides like a dream.
That said, I will contact RCS nonetheless to see if I can exchange it per their warranty. I suspect they will, but if not, now that I see the massive difference, I won't hesitate to get another.
I apologize for speaking too soon and not having all of my facts straight. I am really hard on all my gear generally, but I am trying to be more of a gentle giant with my stuff as I want it to last as long as possible. In the final analysis, I think I cracked it because I was getting in and out of the car sans gun belt.

Cool. I was actually wondering if it was because you were using the light compatible model sans light. My thought was that maybe not having anything inside that area led it to flex excessively and then crack. I have been considering getting that model and adding a light, since it seems like such a sensible addition to my one and only handgun. I have some money coming to me from when I worked for the state- a retirement account that literally is so small it is not worth rolling over into another retirement account. I am thinking of using that to really set myself up right for carry. Streamlight TLR-1, Phantom light compatible holster, Wilderness Tactical belt and possibly a nicer folder or small tactical flashlight with pocketclip if there is enough to do it all. Also, feel free to tell Clare about my light theory and justify the weapon light. Always looking out for you buddy...
LOL. I hear you. I am waiting on a kick-ass tax return to splurge a bit.
It sounds like we will be running the exact same setup, although I am considering a belt from SOE tactical.
That said, I heard back from Jay at RCS, and they are awesome. He asked me to send pics of the holster and they'd send one out as quickly possible. Stellar customer service and response time--you can tell they really care about their customers.
Also, he said they are no making the holster slightly thicker to avoid this problem. It may be that I used the holster sans light, but in the future that won't be a problem.
