I expanded my pantry by 50% or so with the addition of new homemade shelves. It took forever because it just always does around here. But now I can breathe easier, as our mud room/furnace room/craft room/pantry is more organized with items no longer living haplessly on the floor.
I also replaced an outlet in the process, organized the entire pantry, and took stock of our stores. In the process, I found several items that were at large and others about which I had totally forgotten, such as preserves from some place up in Niagra that was given to us over the summer. Cool.
Lastly, I purchased the special 20th Anniversary Issue of Backwoods Home Magazine, whose website is now in the links section here at the Update, along with The Survival Podcast. Both are excellent resources for everything you need to know on prepping for SHTF or homesteading. Well worth the look.
I just wanted to vent here that I feel so much better now that the new shelf has been built and in play. It's been on my mind for a long time. The place just feels better with most of the crap of the floor in it's own proper place, and that's what were going for here. Organization.
So that's it from me for now. 2 posts in 2 days. Peace out, yos.

Excellent. I need a productive weekend before the snow starts. Your shelves are inspiring me. My mudroom needs shelves and some hooks on the walls for tools. I also need to get a cabinet installed above the door. These should be good winter projects.
Thanks Martin. Part of my prepping is centering on getting organized, so I know where stuff is during SHTF, or regular life. I will be purchasing additional lanterns in the future and flashlight hooks so that during a power outage everything is at the ready.
I hope you guys are having a good fall. When's deer season?

Shotgun, or as they're now calling it, "modern firearms" begins next Saturday, the 14th. I got my 12 gauge all fitted out with a tactical rail and a red dot, so I need to sight it in sometime in the next few days. I can hardly wait to get after those whitetails. Last time I went hunting I saw a MONSTER buck and probably a dozen does, and I was deliberately staying away from the really high traffic deer trails and bedding areas. I just want to shoot a doe or three, but Annie's uncle is a trophy hunter, so I gave him the scouting report on the buck. Probably the biggest deer I've ever seen. Great big wide rack, possibly a 12 pointer, and just a massive body. I took a fox squirrel that was bigger than a lot of cats that day too. Acorns in those woods are full of growth hormone or something.
Awesome! I hope that when we come out in June we'll see that Buck on your wall!

I noticed summit gunbroker has knocked that $225 Marlin 336 down to $175. The deals are definitely out there.
